A newlywed couple stands by a riverside. The groom, in a blue suit, gazes at the bride who wears a flowing white dress and holds a bouquet of white roses. Captured by a wedding photographer from Surrey, they stand near boats with a bridge and trees in the background under a clear blue sky.

The Runnymede on Thames

What a pleasure it was to be the photographer at Joy and Paul’s wedding at The Runnymede Hotel in Egham, Surrey. It was a fantastic day; the sky was blue, and I was able to make the most of the wedding venue’s riverside location and captured some great shots of the bride and groom and the wedding party in the lovely grounds. The Queen was celebrating her birthday at nearby Windsor Castle, which meant that the Red Arrows flew over for Trooping of the Colour – such a unique and memorable thing to happen on the happy couple’s big day.

Joy and Paul had to postpone their wedding due to the pandemic, and then there were restrictions on the number of guests that could attend, but this didn’t stop them from having a wonderful wedding. As well as all the smiles, laughter and fun, there were a few tears. I think the beauty of candid photography is that all these natural, emotional moments are captured; it keeps the wedding album/wedding portfolio authentic, personal and unique.

All the photos I took at this wedding, from the bride and groom and their guests getting ready to the ceremony and the wedding reception, took place at the one venue which kept things quite relaxed – quite a good thing considering it was a covid wedding.
